At the fair – Der Kunst- und Handwerkermarkt in Eiserfey

Dear friends,

New week, new goals! Haven't set any real goals yet though. So many things were put off „till after the fair“ and now I seem to be stagnating. I'm working on the next Granny-Spiration Challenge project and that's it really.

As to the fair: It wasn't worth the effort – I've only sold two items. The other sellers were complaining too. Actually, neither my friend Gaby (her stall was next to mine) nor I complained. It was a brilliant and bright sunny day and we had lots of fun. It does make a difference when one isn't alone.

Here are a few pictures of Gaby and I (and our husbands) building up the stalls as well as a few pictures of the items I took along.

I'll keep in touch!

P.S.: The car is Gaby's – Isn't it a stunner?

See more at Gaby's facebook-site

P.S.2: Some of the stuff I took to the fair will turn up in my Etsy-Shop anytime soon!

Liebe Freunde,

Neue Woche, neue Ziele.

  2. THAT CAR! :-O
You all set up beautiful stalls, Marjan! I'm sorry you didn't do more business at the fair. I remember my mom doing small events when I was a kid, and people were often on the snobbish side saying "I can make that cheaper" right to her face. (And that was just the other sellers!) It put a fear of fairs in me.
The things you make are so unique and full of skill - If not at the fair, then surely you will find buyers somewhere.
    Have a wonderful week!
PS - Love the colors on the Granny-Spiration project!

At least I didn't have to listen to too many nasty remarks, people were pretty nice, they just were not interested in buying. Gaby said I should start making more notice of myself in our village too - never mind what people are saying, as long as they do. Talked about it with my husband and I've got "carte blanche" to put crochet stuff into the front garden (as long as I do not start putting grannies on any of our cars ;-)).
First things firt: the challenge and then we'll soon be off to Scotland for two weeks. I'll start the "garden-project" when we're back.
      Have a lovely week,
      Marjan

  3. Too bad you didn't sell much, but glad you had some fun :-)
It's definitely not your fault, as I can see your wonderful projects and you smiling ;-) Probably not much people, or people with other interests...?
It's okay, take some rest now and then the next thing.
PS: I've only started yesterday evening for the grannyspiration... it's getting difficult to find something new each month.

People passing by were nice (not too many nastly remarks) but they just were not interested in buying anything.
It's not much use starting any large projects now either as we're leaving for Scotland in two weeks time. Thanks to Gaby I've got some ideas to promote myself in the village too, but that will have to wait till July.
      Have a wonderful week,
      Marjan
P.S.: I'm not lacking ideas really - most of the time I've got too many other things on my mind to actually start the challenge-projects in time...

  4. So much work for so few sales. That is disappointing, but at least you were with a friend and the experience must have been interesting! It's difficult to know what sort of things will sell well because it all depends on the buyers. Sometimes it's a simple as having the right colour combinations that seem to attract people.
Your friend Gaby's car is amazing!

I do think people simply were not in a buying-mood as non of the other sellers did much business either. But thanks to Gaby it was a great day. We had taken some crochet along and were chattering most of the time.
      Have a love week,
      Marjan
P.S.: The car did get a lot of attention!

  6. What a wonderful stall you had with all your beautiful creations. So sorry you didn't sell much but I think that is the way with craft stalls. My quilting group have a stall every month at one of the halls but there too, not much actually is sold. I loved your friend's car too and showed it to my husband. I hope you enjoy your holiday here in Scotland, there is some beautiful countryside for you to see.

It'll be my fifth visit to Scotland and I'm really looking forewards to this holiday as we'll be spending it on the Isle of Lewis & Harris. That's something new for my husband as well as for me. I'm particularly fond of Scotland thuerefore I'm pretty sure I'll thoroughly enjoy this holiday.

  10. Marjan your stall looks perfect! I remember you worrying whether you'd have enough things to sell, but judging from the pictures you had plenty - all beautiful things! I am sorry sales were scarce, but I am sure you felt the pulse of what is needed and wanted by customers. You friend's car is amazing! Have lots of fun in Scotland, make lots of fantastic memories and don't forget to take loads of pictures. I am head over heels in love with Scotland, and it is on my bucket list. would love to hear your experience.

    1. Dear Maya,
it'll be my fifth visit to Scotland. Therefore I can say: if you haven't yet, you surely must visit Scotland too. Scotland kind of is the place on earth where my heart belongs, it's where I feel homebounds to, where I can truely recharge my batteries - it's nearly impossible to describe.
Do you know Robert Burns (1759-1796), the Scottish poet? He wrote a poem "My Heart Is In The Highlands" - that's what it feels like to me.
      Have a lovely day,
      Marjan
P.S.: If you search the internet you'll probably find Kenneth McKellar. His version of Burns' poem is a bit dramatic but it's got the right feel.

Aaaaber in Englisch.

  12. I went to a local flea market last year, and sat allllllll day with no sales. It was very disappointing to me, but it definitely helped me in decided what to bring next time and how to set things up. I love the way you've set your booth up! I learned that I need to plan better for the way I will set up, and what to bring, but also being that it was really warm all day, it also helped me realize that I need to bring more things that are made of cooler yarns or non wearables like coasters and such. Thanks so much for sharing your experience! Sorry you didn't have many sales, but I am glad you had fun :)
